Privacy

StreetDossier has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no advertising, and loads nothing from other websites. Unless you sign up for email alerts, the only information about you that reaches us is what every web server records when a page is requested.

Who is responsible

The site is run by the sole trader named in our legal notice, who is the controller of the personal data described here. Write to hello@streetdossier.com about anything on this page.

What is recorded when you visit

Our web server logs each request: your IP address, the date and time, the address of the page (which includes any postcode or street you searched for), the page you came from if your browser says, and your browser's description of itself. We use these logs only to keep the site running and secure: to find faults, to see which pages fail, and to block abuse. We do not combine them with anything else, try to identify visitors, or share them, except with our hosting provider, which stores them for us, and where the law requires it.

The lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a working, secure website. The logs are deleted after 12 months.

Cookies

The site sets no cookies and uses no similar technology to store or read anything on your device, so there is nothing to accept or refuse. If that ever changes, this page will say so first.

Email alerts

If you ask for alerts about a street, we keep your email address, the street, when you signed up and confirmed, and when we last emailed you. We use them only to send those alerts: never for marketing, and we share them with no one except our hosting provider, which stores them and sends the emails for us. The lawful basis is your consent, which you give by ticking the box and confirming by email; you can withdraw it with the link in every email, which deletes your address for that street at once. Otherwise we keep them for as long as the alert runs.

Nothing is sent until you confirm. If you never confirm, we delete the sign-up after 7 days. To stop sign-ups being abused, we also keep a scrambled form of the internet address the sign-up came from, salted with the date so it cannot be reversed or matched across days.

Emails to us

If you email us, we keep your message and address to answer it and for as long as the conversation needs, and no longer than two years after it ends.

Information about homes on the site

Pages show what public bodies publish about places: prices paid for homes and their addresses (HM Land Registry), energy certificates (the Energy Performance of Buildings Register), and the other sources on About the data. None of it names anyone. We show these records as the publishers release them, under their licences. If you think a record about your home is wrong, the publisher can correct it at source; tell us and we will say who to contact. If you object to how we show something about your home, write to us and we will consider it under the right to object.

Your rights

You can ask us for a copy of personal data we hold about you, to correct or delete it, to restrict how we use it, or object to our using it. Because we cannot link log entries to a person, we may need your IP address and the times of your visits to find anything. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though we would like the chance to put things right first.

Changes

We will update this page before we start collecting anything new.
